My name is Jock McNeill. I’m the Vice President of Partner Relations at PURE Property Management. My role is to help build and nurture relationships with independent property management company owners who are excited about PURE’s vision and are considering joining PURE’s mission to band together and build together. Daily, I work alongside Jennifer Stoops, who leads corporate development, and together we make up the PURE acquisitions team. At its core, I help people who want to join our kickball team.
I recently celebrated 23 years in the business and love being a part of PURE. I’ve been in the real estate industry since 1999. I was the broker and owner of over 600 units in three offices in wine country — about an hour north of San Francisco. Today, over 3,000. I live in the Santa Rosa area with my wife and daughters, and I’m passionate about helping people find great homes and enjoy a better property management service experience. I love to laugh, especially at my mistakes. I’m a happy, happy guy.
Before I landed in property management, I attended the University of the Pacific School of Business and Public Administration. I got my B.S. in Business Administration and became a licensed real estate broker. My passion has always been helping people live their best lives, and I have done that by assisting them in buying, selling, and managing properties to benefit everyone.
In 2015, I received the Master Property Manager designation through the National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM). This was a significant recognition for me because only a few hundred people hold it in the country. Candidacy required specialized courses, industry involvement, and recommendations from my colleagues and clients. It’s an honor to be a part of such a community, and even more so to find an even bigger community aligned with these ideals in PURE.
Thanks to my relationship with Mike Catalano, I became part of the PURE team in its early days. We’ve known each other for several years. We have a lot in common, specifically our desire to acquire property management portfolios in our respective markets through a lot of information sharing and collaboration. We’ve become great friends over the years, and when Joe and Mike asked me to be a part of this vision, I could not resist. To make this industry better for consumer consolidation and scale is an absolute. Why would I pass on being a change agent for the better?
My core reasons for joining PURE were twofold. I wanted to build a bigger and better company in our industry, and I knew collaboration was the only way to accomplish that. I also wanted to create better opportunities for my team. I had hit a professional ceiling, a plateau of sorts, and I knew that if I stayed where I was, I would always be a ceiling for my team. PURE has allowed me and my team to grow within the company thanks to joining a group of people with skill sets and capabilities that I didn’t have.
As we grow, my team can become regional managers and supervise different departments because we are so early in joining PURE. And who knows, the sky’s the limit, right?
If you’re feeling blocked or plateaued in your career, PURE creates the ideal environment where you can pick the things you want to focus your attention on, the things you love doing, and then hand off the rest. Handing off the payroll, HR, back office, and being the broker, were all things that weren’t my favorite activities. With PURE, I’ve been able to refocus my time on growing PURE and our business development team. It’s the most fun I’ve had in the last 20 years.
People make a few different considerations when deciding whether a company like PURE is right for them.
Mamas love their babies, and all of us are very protective of our clients and our teams. We want to ensure they’re taken care of. With PURE, we haven’t really lost clients. PURE does an exceptional job of ensuring everyone feels good about the experience, and it shows in the quality of the people who have joined us.

Working isn’t working. We're building. PURE has been a life-changing experience because I get to work with a mastermind group every single day. Like, literally. Go to any mastermind conference in the industry, and many, if not most, are a part of PURE now. I’ve been part of many masterminds over the years in the industry, and instead of infrequent meetups at conferences, we’re on Zoom calls almost daily together. That collective energy is motivating. We tackle challenging problems. It’s tough to explain, but it’s also pretty darn cool. I love it.
Working with people from diverse backgrounds is one of the most exciting aspects of working for PURE. Not everyone comes from property management, so you have people bringing in fresh perspectives from unlikely places, leading to unique solutions to the problems we face in this industry. And while this industry seems fairly simple from the outside, the reality is that our secret sauce isn't so much a secret as it is a calling. Renting a home should be simple and satisfying. As an industry, we’re still far from it, but that’s why we get out of bed every day. We know we can bring more joy to the world, but we have to run headfirst into a brick wall of complexity every day and break that complexity down.
It’s essential to understand why there’s a lot of consolidation happening in our industry. To simplify and satisfy consumers, we as an industry must bring innovation and scale. Consolidation is inevitable; amazingly, it’s 2022, and we’re still as fragmented as we were two decades ago. Choosing the right group of people to work with is more than essential; it’s a mental health choice. It’s no secret this industry can chew up and spit out the most well-intentioned people. With PURE, we have each other’s back.
I enjoy working with a group of visionaries and close friends with years upon years of experience. We’re all working toward a shared vision of transforming the property management industry for the better and bringing more joy to renting a home. Make it more simple and more satisfying for everyone.
